'Collateral Freedom' is a strategy to circumvent Chinese internet censorship using commercial cyberspace that China wants to keep open to host sites it would rather block. In an interview at TEDxHagueAcademySalon, Charlie Smith (a pseudonym) explains that the scheme has the potential to topple Chinese censorship. Charlie Smith is cofounder of GreatFire, which runs FreeWeibo, a site that republishes information censored by the Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo.
