Sonamsto, from Students for a Free Tibet, held the room at Google’s AGM with her powerful speech presenting our shareholder proposal calling for Google to become a company that safeguards all of our human rights.

Right now up to 2 million people are being detained in mass internment camps by the authorities in China simply because they’re Muslim. After months campaigning, Google has dropped project dragonfly, but, Google refuses to rule completely ruling out future collaboration with the government of China in cybersurveillance and censorship. It doesn’t want to be drawn on discussing a ‘hypothetical situation’.

But as Sonamsto says, ‘Frontline communities don’t have the luxury of waiting for all of your “hypotheticals” to turn into real risks for us’.
