The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has more than 4500 archaeological sites on its property in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. We are always interested in working with archaeologists, anthropologists and historians to allow studies of these sites. Most have never been excavated. Professors from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University are working together to ensure the history and cultural treasures that lie beneath the soil on these sites are unearthed and shared with the descendants of those who lived there. This particular site along the Arkansas River in Oklahoma was a trading center for the Wichita Tribe of Indians and French traders.
