Welcome to Long Beach, California. This is the 1992-98 layout of the track and quite an incident-packed race it was. I had gear selection problems again, as in the previous race. The original plan was to stop twice but this was quickly changed into a three stop strategy because of high tire wear. I couldn't keep up with Tracy, who went shooting off into a lead which he threw away when he fell off the track - not unlike him in 1993. Al Unser, Jr. was also running well until he retired. A back marker unlapping himself probably cost me a podium, but at least an extra point was scored for fastest lap.

-Paul Tracy scores 1 point for pole position
-Raul Boesel scores 1 point for fastest lap
