A South Florida Police Department has a UNIQUE program to help ALL residents in its city...Pooches in Pines...a volunteer organization which functions alongside the Pembroke Pines Police Department Animal Assistance Program (AAP). Their goal is to reunite dogs and pets of all sorts found within the city with their owners.
To date, no other city has a program like this. In Broward County, stray dogs are brought to Animal Control and are held for 3-5 days before they are either put up for adoption or euthanized.
Pooches in Pines, with a reunion rate of close to 70%, has saved over 650 dogs since 2011 from this fate. If the owners are not found, pets will then move into a foster program with Pooches in Pines or other local rescue groups.
Pooches in Pines is a 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. They are 100% funded by donations. Please consider donating by going to their webpage, WWW.PoochesinPines.com. If you live in the South Florida area, you can also drop off donations including food, beds, towels at the Pembroke Pines Police Department located at 9500 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines, Fl 33024.
