When an earthquake destroyed thousands of Indonesian homes in September 2009, Catholic Relief Services knew that the best way to rebuild quickly was to empower villagers to help. By giving them choices about what building materials were needed, and by encouraging those with skills to participate in the construction, CRS Indonesia was able to speed up a process that could have taken years.
