Test Gun: Glock 26 3.46" bbl
4 Layers Terry Cloth/1 Chicken 3 Jugs
Velocity: 1044 FPS/326 FT/LBS
Expansion: .506"
Retained Weight: 133.7 grains

According to Hornady the Critical Duty is NOT optimized for the short barrel conceal carry gun. I wanted to test it to see how effective it would be from one. The Glock 26 is a good representation with a 3.46" barrel.

I come away from this test more impressed by this round than the Critical Defense 115gr. The Defense round suffers from the potential to under penetrate and lacks the barrier penetration that I like to have. Most likely the standard self defense encounter will not involve barriers, but you never know and I like to have that option. Hornady has addressed these issues in the Critical Duty.

I'll probably be doing a 2nd test on this round out of the M&P9 to see just how optimally effective this round can be.
