A Dutch film about the historical naval hero Michiel de Ruyter, who delivered a crushing defeat to the superior English fleet in 1667 using a clever ploy, Holland on the brink of a civil war and the clever statesmanship of Johan de Witt and King William the Third.

The film is quite historically accurate. Keep in mind it was shot on a budget of around 8 million euros ($10 million), a lot for a Dutch movie, but a budget that obviously doesn't compare to the Hollywood stuff we're used to. Enjoy!

Background info:
The film was slightly controversial in Holland. There were some that thought the movie was glorifying Dutch golden age history (it glorifies a Dutch hero, but does it really exaggerate that much?) and didn't feature the showing of any slavery. Thankfully, de Ruyter had pretty much nothing to do with slavery (in fact, he earned respect by, with his own money, buying the freedom of several white and christian slaves in his travels), so I think this criticism is utter nonsense.

Apparantly, the film company that made the film don't really care about an international audience, which is pretty dumb.
