And just when you thought the Scruffy Dragon team had released their biggest surprise of their Scruffyversary event in the Joker, along comes this amazing Batman. Not many knew Alucard (who did both the code and the sprite editing) was this far along with him, so it came as a major surprise, even if he was teased in their event opening trailer.
Now he is not complete yet, so willing to go off potential for some of the aesthetics here. The sprites look really good, though there are a couple that could stand some polish and Alucard is quoted in the readme that is in the works. The sound is currently a bit of a mish mash from various sources, but again, this is something that has been quoted to be worked on further. And given the amazing thought and detail put into all of these awesome moves, you know that same devotion that inspired that work will spill into the work Alucard says he has left.
The moves, very hard to come up with enough adjectives to properly give them justice. But I'm willing to bet there is not a single character in all of comic superhero Mugen that has as many moves as he does...especially when all the updates are in place. Count them, four alternative modes to have a blast with. I'll go into original Batman first, and then breakdown the unique moves that are currently in place for the alternative modes. Each of those extra modes will be fleshed out more in the future.
*Specials*
------------------
- Batarang: Standard Batarang attack, can also be done in the air
- Electric Batarang: Electrocutes opponent
- Explosive Batarang: Batarang that explodes on contact for extra damage
- Razor Batarangs: 3 different versions thrown in 3 different ways
- Mine Batarang: Throws a trap Batarang, can be thrown from 2 different vectors
- Batbolas: Traps the opponent
- Stun Bomb: Misdirection to change location
- Smoke Bomb: Bomb that puts opponent into a dizzy state
- Flash Bomb: Bomb that puts opponent into a blinded and dizzy state
- Batgrapple: Numerous uses of the grapple gun for evasion and attacking
- Bat Kicks: 3 different intensities of combination kick attacks
- Dark Knight Combo: 3 different intensities of combination punch attacks
*Hypers*
---------------
- Bat Swarm: Swarm of bats attack, player can supplement this attack with other moves
- Urban Legend: Countermove that blocks first, and then attacks in multiple ways
- Crime Alley Vengeance: Massive attack that also instills the fear of the Batman into the opponent
- Dark Knight Ride: Insane use of the Batmobile to fire a missile at the opponent after beating them into submission first
- The Batmen: Dozens of Batmen from various universes and time periods attack consecutively. You will never see the same combination twice.
@ The first alternative mode to discuss is Batzarro mode. He has many of the same specials/hypers listed above, but the following are exclusive just to him.
- Batzarro Gun: Basic shooting attack
- Batzarro Chain: Catch and hit the opponent, can also be done in the air
- Chain Meets Gun: Combo move with the chain and gun
- Heavy Hitter Hyper Attack: Multiple gun firing attack
@ Kryptonite Batman Mode: He wears a special suit to combat Kryptonians where extra damage is done against them with every attack
Kryptonite Twilight Hyper: Explosion of kryptonite energy to attack
@ Infiltration Suit Mode: He wears the suit from the Batman Beyond era for its own unique abilities
- Stealth Mode: Goes invisible
- Bat-tle Armor: Exoskeleton robot suit forms for a devastating attack.
Jeez, I'm tired after looking up all that stuff and typing it all out. There are a couple other things to iron out. Right now, his AI is non-existent as he does not put up much of a fight. On the flip side of that though, who cares as you will be too busy playing as him to even think about fighting against him. But again, with all the potential this character shows, as well as the detail Alucard has already put in and says he will do more, I have no doubt that his future AI will fully utilize every single facet of attack possible. There is one bug that I found, only in AI in that he can sometimes freeze while getting ready to use the Batbolas. Everyone is already crossing their fingers hoping that the next insane updates Alucard has for this fun character to play will be coming soon.
