When times are good, it's easy to build a hospital that incorporates the latest in patient care, the best technical capabilities and the highest level of patient and staff safety. But, what is the healthcare provider's expectation when financing their project under the insured, HUD 242 Program in the midst of a bleak recession? In Capital Health's case, the expectations were exactly the same. The 237-bed replacement hospital opened to the public on November 6. HKS's healthcare group -- in collaboration with associate designer and interior architect, Array, development manager, Anchor Health Properties and construction managers, Skanska and Target -- created a hospital that serves as a beacon of care, hope and aspiration for all who work and take haven in it, while working with the HUD-approved budget, scheduling, cost review, construction close-out, payments and bonding requirements.
