According to his testimony, in April 2005, Luai was the victim of torture at the hands of the Israeli Security Agency (formerly known as the General Security Service). In this testimony, he describes the methods used during his interrogation. These include the painful tightening of handcuffs, binding him into painful positions, such as the "banana bend", for extended periods of time and over a number of days, resulting in the fracturing of a few vertebrae in his lower back. As a direct result of this fracture, one of his legs became totally paralyzed and the other partially.
