James Austin explains, "This video captures the initial stages of forge welding the basic form of a Viking age horned anvil from two pieces of low carbon steel. The horn is tenoned through the top of the body of the anvil and scarfed where it abutts the vertical face of the anvil. After this welding is done the anvil will be forged more closely to its final shape and a face of high carbon steel will be forge welded over the top face of the body and the horn. The anvil will then be finish forged, ground and heat treated for use in tool making."
