This is one of the most poignant episodes ever written for the TV series, Combat! Episode is titled, 'Cry in the Ruins.' It starts out with King Company squaring off with a German patrol in a village only to be interrupted by a French woman's cry for help. She has lost her baby in the ruins and pleads for the soldiers' assistance in her search. The American and German soldiers call a truce and put the war aside to help her search for hours in a collective effort only to find that she is delusional and actually lost her child in the war a couple years earlier. In this scene, with their hopes just shattered, they realize that there is nothing more that they can do but pick up their weapons and rejoin the war to fight another day. They met as enemies, but for one moment in time they came together in a humanitarian effort to help save a life. Very haunting episode and one of the best in the series. Also happened to be directed by Vic Morrow. Series aired from 1962-'67 and is well worth your time watching, buy the DVDs.
