Betty Missiego performing "Su Canción" ("Your Song"), the Spanish entry at the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest.

A cute - if, IMO, a bit overrated - song which cleverly incorporates the children's choir into the lyrics (watch out for the multilingual "thank you" notes at the end!), this performance won the hearts of European juries, which almost pushed Spain to victory that year. It was only by their own vote at the end of the scoring that they had to settle for 2nd place, conceding victory to Israel.

I am glad this song didn't win, but I am also glad that it finished second, because it was the second best song behind the fantastic "Hallelujah". The same thing happened again two years later with Johnny Blue and Making Your Mind Up

both israel (my country) and Spain sucked. Germany was the best

This should have won the 1979 Contest.

A hymn is a song too. By the way, I love "Halleljuah".

It's a nice song, but 2nd place was maybe a bit overrated for it.

Even though I still prefer Hallelujah over this one, I have to say that this song has one of the nicest melodies I have ever heard in my life, nearly makes me cry

why would the Spanish jury change their votes, they could just ask Netherlands or UK to host it and they could still go down as winning 1979?
