Koleso from St Petersburg perform 'This Baby Sleeps' by John Farndon from his musical 'Anya'. http://johnfarndon.com
This baby sleeps She cannot tell The world around her is worse than hell Her mother's lost She's on her own In this world of misery She’ll grow alone No mother’s arms to hold her tight To whisper, ‘Child, it will be all right’ So many babes, alone like her And so many more now the mothers who’ve lost their own babes
In the name of right, the world does wrong It takes all our children before too long To join the fight – they are beguiled To rob the life of another’s child Is each murder, a much loved son – A mother’s treasure who’s found a gun? And are they all alone like her – Alone in their anger and fearfulness deep in their hearts
How can I live with this all pain? How live without despair? What point has life in such a cruel world? How can I give this baby hope? How can I lift her from despair? Why is it worth her even being born?
This baby sleeps She cannot tell The world around her is worse than hell Yet though she’s lost And on her own I’ll be with her She’s not alone These woman’s arms will hold her tight And whisper, ‘Child, it will be all right’ For every child, each girl and boy Is a hope for the future, a promise of joy in our lives!
