Whirlpool Corporation is a proud returning sponsor of FIRST Robotics and has provided thousands of volunteer hours (including coaching and mentoring teams as well as nearly 100 day of event volunteers,) tool chests for teams through the Gladiator GarageWorks brand and matching grants for local teams to compete in nationals each May.

This high-tech spectator event is free to the public and combines the excitement of sport with science and technology. Teams compete in a recycling-themed challenge in an arena with a robot they built in just six weeks. The theme for this year’s competition is Recycle Rush and will be played by two alliances of three robots each. Robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers and properly disposing of pool noodles, which represent litter. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all game pieces are reusable or recyclable by teams in their home locations at the end of the season. FIRST is an international non-profit K-12 organization that designs programs to encourage young people to pursue their interests in science, math, engineering and technology (STEM) through education and career opportunities. FIRST calls its robotics program "a varsity sport for the mind" that allows students to learn from professional engineers and qualify for nearly $14.8 million in college scholarships.
