Utah Valley's volleyball team defeated Boise State in four sets (25-14, 26-24, 16-25, 25-22) Wednesday night in Orem to conclude its non-conference schedule. With the win the Wolverines improved to 15-9, while with the loss the Broncos dropped to 17-7.

"Following a loss up at their (Boise State) place earlier this year, the girls were hungry tonight," UVU head coach Sam Atoa said. "I was really proud of the girls and how they were able to comeback and execute well. It didn't seem like having a five-set match last night really bothered them at all. We really came out and controlled it from the beginning."

The Wolverines got off to quick start against the Broncos in the first set as they took an early 7-2 advantage. UVU continued its hot start to the match as it worked the lead to 10 as it led 15-5. The Wolverines then stretched their lead to 11 towards the end of the set and went on to win it by that margin, 25-14. UVU led the set from start to finish and outhit the Broncos .400 to .065 in the set.

In the second set BSU responded by taking its first lead of the match early and battling back and forth with the home Wolverines. With the Broncos leading 12-11, BSU rolled off three straight points to take a 15-11 lead. UVU immediately responded by scoring three consecutive of its own to cut the deficit to one, 15-14.

With UVU leading 18-17 in the second set, the Broncos went on a run where they scored six straight to take a 23-18 advantage. UVU then battled by scoring four of the next five points which warranted a BSU timeout as they trailed only by two, 24-22. UVU continued its comeback efforts by scoring the next three points to go up 25-24. UVU completed the impressive comeback by scoring seven unanswered points in the set, 26-24. Junior Chelsey Heaps paced the Wolverines in the set with four kills including the final one.

The third stayed close the entire first half of the set. With UVU up a point at 11-10, the Broncos rolled off four straight to take a 14-11 advantage. BSU later extended its lead to eight at 21-13. The Wolverines managed to score three of the next four to cut it to six at 22-16 but that was as close at they would get the rest of the set, as the Broncos won it 25-16.
After an early five-point Wolverine run in the fourth set, the momentum seemed to shift back towards the home team. Following a block from junior Jaicee Kuresa and senior Dani Robison, UVU doubled up the Broncos on the scoreboard at 12-6. Boise State then battled back from an eight-point deficit to get within two at 18-16. UVU immediately responded by scoring three in a row to take a 21-16 lead.

Boise State came right back however and made things interesting by scoring five unanswered to tie the score at 21. From there UVU took advantage of a couple of BSU miscues and finished the match with a service ace from senior Lanni O'Reilly.

It was a team effort offensively for UVU on the night as senior Kayli Doxey led the way with 11 kills but Robison, Heaps and freshman Brookelyn Campbell all added eight apiece. Junior Sarah Clement was right behind them with seven kills, while Kuresa also tallied six. Robison also finished with a match-high seven blocks on her Hometown Hero Night as UVU had 13 total team blocks to the Broncos five.

With the win, UVU remained unbeaten against the Broncos in Orem (4-0) and improve to 7-2 all-time against them. The match also concluded UVU's non-conference slate for the year. The Wolverines finished the season 11-7 against non-conference opponents.
