CHRISTUS FACTUS EST Commissioned by the Anglo-Chinese Junior College Choir Composer: John August Pamintuan
"Christ became obedient for us unto death even to the death, death on the cross Therefore God exalted Him and gave Him a name which is above all names."
The imminence of Christ's death is aptly portrayed in the forward propelling momentum of the opening and closing sections. The slow middle section continues to paint Christ's death on the cross by the build-up in harmonic tension and the manipulation of the rhythm generated across the four vocal parts. The last statement of Christ "which is above all names" is repeated and added to the musical texture by having the different voice parts entering in layers before culminating in a climactic end.
