Part one of a quick single run through the arcade version of Macross 2's Medium difficulty course, scoring 2.92mil with an ALL Clear. This clip was recorded originally as a WolfMAME 0.106 input (hence the badly emulated background music, which has been fixed for the latest version), and is for the first two of four stages.

Macross 2 shares a lot of features with time and attack modes found in other games such as Recca, Dangun Feveron and Pink Sweets, in that you're up against the clock here, trying to reach a score plateau in order to progress. You're unable to extend your time allocation, however, so the only thing you can do is to try and score as much as you can, by collecting surplus powerups (for 3,000pts each), various medals, and tagging bonus enemies. Thankfully, there's enough in each stage for you to hit your score target comfortably.

If you're pretty quick on the draw, you can clear the boss with plenty of time left. Once you do, you're made invulnerable for the remainder of your stage time allocation, so you can pick up even more points.

For the majority of the game, I tend to keep the Gerwalk and Homing powerups, as I find they're the best suited to quickly wiping out formations due to their range. Fighter is good in some situations, such as bosses, where you need power, but for most of the game, it's best to go with range.
