A semi-truck was hit by a train after becoming stuck at a level crossing in Banyo, north Brisbane. The truck, carrying a 38-tonne transformer, became stuck after grounding on the tracks at the crossing as a northbound train approached. The train driver applied the emergency brakes but it was too late to avoid a collision. The train hit the truck, pushing it along the track and into a southbound train stopped at a nearby station. The 45-year-old truck driver was taken to the hospital with severe leg and pelvic injuries.
