Honey bees and other pollinators are in decline. The reasons for this are not conclusively known but may involve a mite (Varroa jacobsoni), a virus, pesticide use or a combination of all of these. Colony collapse occurs when all the adult bees leave the colony, in this video we look at how a natural hormonal control in the beehive is compromised by the loss of field bees and actually accelerates the conversion of young workers into field bees accelerating the loss of adult bees.
