Sara is the author of the book Resilience Begins with Beliefs: Building on Student Strengths for Success in School published by Teachers College Press.
Sara has over 20 years of classroom experience ranging from Pre-K to High School. She has been a mentor teacher working with new teachers in classroom curriculum, organization, and management. As a student teacher, Sara was recognized by the National Education Association (NEA) as one of three outstanding elementary student teachers in the nation.
Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked in the area of policy as the Legislative Analyst for Education and the Legislative Analyst for Women's Issues in the New York State Senate. Sara was later appointed by New York State Governor Mario Cuomo, to be the Special Assistant to the New York State Secretary of State.
She is the Education Consultant for the documentary film, Race To Nowhere and co-author of the Race to Nowhere Facilitation Guide. She also is the Education Consultant to the film, Love Hate Love, which was Executive Produced by Sean Penn and had its television debut on Oprah Winfrey's network, OWN in 2011. She is the author of the Love Hate Love Facilitation Guide.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
