A song to mark York City's dubious achievement of being the worst team in the Football League in 2015/16 (and thus departing it). Full lyrics below. Join the York City Supporters' Trust at http://bit.ly/YCFCtrust

2012, May 20
City back to the land of the plenty
Eight years of pain, but we were back again
Goal was offside but clearly it was meant to be

York City, going up!
Crazy days, I rode the open top bus
And in Gary Mills we had our trust
But that’s all faded now, we’ve gone from boom to bust

Now we’re going back down to the Conference
And it doesn’t feel good, it’s a nonsense
After just four years, gone from cheers to jeers
And the fans have lost all confidence

Yeah we’re going back down to the Conference
The National League? Well that’s a nonsense
City til I die, but makes me want to cry
We’ve thrown it all away, it doesn’t make sense

So we’re going back down to the Conference
With MacNamara who made no difference
Said we wouldn’t go down, but now he looks a clown
For putting teenage strangers in our defence

Yes we’re going back to down to the Conference
And things behind the scenes are getting intense
From three McGills to one, why have the others gone?
And is the one who’s left still up for the expense?

We’ve got to have a voice

So let’s talk the Supporters’ Trust
We own a quarter of the club and we really must
Have a say, take our seat on the board
Cos City’s future looks bleak if the fans are just ignored

Me? I am a Trust Lifetime Member
Last time I heard from them? I don’t remember
Yes, Jason’s heart seems in the right place
But so are ours - so let’s step up to the plate

The Trust saved the club from John Batchelor
A man with less integrity than a blumming spatula
We helped the club then, we can help them once more
So, yeah, Jason get us on the blumming board

Sign up today, and make your voices heard
And do your bit to bring this club back to the level that it deserves
The way I see it, we just don’t have a choice
We’ve got to have a voice

Yeah we’re going back down to the Conference
Jackie Mac? I’m staying on the fence
But don’t you blooming dare, get players who don’t care
For that there’s just no defence

Cos yeah we’re going back down to the Conference
It’s rubbish there, there’s just no pretense
And will we get a new ground? It really doesn’t sound
Like we should have much confidence

But we’ll support them down there in the Conference
Just like we did before, in the Conference
And City fans you must, join the Supporters’ Trust
It’s simply common sense

Then we’ll be stronger there in the Conference
And won’t have to put up with the nonsense
Cos we won’t be ignored, we’ll get our place on the board
You know it makes sense

Jason, give the fans a voice
