How to play Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt by NiN. Note that the chords he used in his cover are not necessarily tonally equivalent to those NiN use in the original, but they follow the same progression.

This song is relatively easy to play in standard tuning. The verses are a 3-chord progression of Am-C-D (though it sounds more like C-D-Am, depending on your ear). The chorus is simple enough as Am-F-C-G, but to retain the overall single-note theme from the song, the high G is held throughout.

Tip for beginner players: pressure balance is the key. If you're pushing too hard with your pinkie, it's really going to start hurting if you hold down death-grip pressure on a high string. Just enough pressure to hold the string to the fret and produce the note is what you're after. You'll find with practice that it's significantly less than you might think necessary.
