This unsold pilot based on a play by Phoebe Ephron, written by Sidney Sheldon (I Dream of Jeannie) and produced by William Asher (Bewitched) stars Paul Lynde as the patriarch of a Long Island family who has to put up with his underachieving beatnik son-in-law (the "Howie" of the title).

This proposed series for CBS was to take over the time slot left vacant by the about to be cancelled "Dick Van Dyke Show". When Van Dyke's show was granted a last minute reprieve, plans to bring "Howie" to series were discarded, and Sheldon and Asher would go on to work on "The Patty Duke Show" the next year.

Asher retooled "Howie"s premise ten years later for the ABC network, as "The Paul Lynde Show", to replace "Bewitched".

Disclaimer: I do not own anything, I uploaded this pilot for others to enjoy and because this pilot isn't available on DVD and probably will remain so.
