Jung means that the archetypal is the libidinal foundation of the psyche. Archetypes are the ultimate motivators of human behavior, feelings and thoughts. Because of this basal character in psychic dynamics Jung considers them "infernal", in the sense of daimones, "demons", instigating powers of all psychic life, above our will, to which they are superordinate, and at the same time because their instinctive aspect relates them to our animal impulses, although its intuitive aspect does it with our superior tendencies, intellectual, artistic and spiritual. We are tempted to say that its influence possibly begins by embracing the constitution, design and regulation of the physiological substratum, and from there it rises to the control and organization of the psychological substratum, of the soul. Thus, the archetypes would be the essential constituents of the whole spectrum of what we conceive as human nature, from the animal to the spirit.
