Hey Guys and Gals our regularly scheduled toy train reviews are back!! hehe, as Trains arrive in the next couple of weeks i will try to produce some decent videos :)

Today we have the Hypercirt Super freight set from TOMICA, I got this on ebay for a good price and I think its great value at $30 delivered. The Locomotive is a Japanese EF electric locomotive that gets its power from the overhead wires via pantographs on the roof, it comes with 5 freight cars that all look great to me although not as detailed as some similar plarail freight wagons that are available. They did sell TOMICA hypercity for a few years in Australia but I do not think it was a big success although you can still find some sets and items at Toyworld stores here.

The locomotive itself is nicely weighted and the body lifts off to reveal a 2nd compartment with a screw holding it on, this 2nd compartment seems un-necesssary to me. The switch appears to operate a 2 speed mechanism although it does not engage a slow speed in this particular locomotive, is this a 2 speed locomotive and this one is faulty? drop a comment and let me know. its quite fast and pulls quite well, a 2nd speed would make this locomotive ideal but i can not give a higher score as i would have given if it was 2 speed.

The rollingstock it comes with is the usual TOMY quality which feels solid and a decent quality plastic, they all roll very well also with no annoying squeaky wheels, The TOMICA color theme of red yellow and black are featured on 2 of the wagons one of which is a flat wagon with 2 containers marked TOMICA the other is a tank wagon marked with 01, with the 3rd being a bright green boxcar which is quite long and has a long wheelbase, this does not affect cornering from what i have seen, the car transporter is rather plain looking but it does hold the car in place even at high speed even around the bends, the caboose/brake van is bright red and theres not much to say about it except it is marked H C for hypercity.

It is a very good set but the locomotive stuck on high speed is quite a let down and I might try another drive unit in it

EDIT: I found out from a fellow Plarailer (Thanks I0STT) its not faulty, its meant to be that speed so I may try a shinkansen drive unit thats 2 speed looks pretty straight forward to swap.

EDIT:They are totally different drive units having them side by side, screw holes and axle location very different. Conversion would be very difficult with this particular shinkansen drive unit, I will try more drive units in the future though :)

I give this set a 8.5/10 it loses some score due to my gripe with the locomotive speed, the rollingstock is great though and will come in handy as I collect more Plarail trains which I think look rather silly pulling Troublesome trucks all the time :P

Thanks for watching and reading and drop a comment!!
