NEW YORK — A flight attendant who dropped two suitcases full of cocaine and condoms at the Los Angeles International Airport before running away in a panic turned herself into authorities in New York on Wednesday.
Marsha Gay Reynolds was arrested by Drug Enforcement Agents in New York after she was stopped at an airline workers' checkpoint last Friday in Los Angeles and kicked off her shoes, dropped the narcotics and ran.
Reynolds was trying to board a red-eye flight from LAX to New York at 7 p.m. last Friday, according to the LAPD.
She was randomly picked to have her bags inspected, which is when Reynolds got nervous, according to the cops. She used her cellphone to make a call to someone, speaking in a language that the agents did not recognize as English or Spanish.
As security escorted her to the front of the screening area, she took off running, police said.
She made it about 15 feet with her carry-on bags before dropping them.
"She kicked her high heels off and left her shoes and bag behind," said Marshall McClain of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association.
"She knew if she dropped both of them, she'd be able to run away more quickly," McClain said.
"She was then able to high-foot it out of the terminal, down an up escalator while barefoot, where we assume she got into a car and took off to parts unknown."
TSA agents discovered clothes, Trojan Magnum condoms and 68.49 pounds of cocaine wrapped in green saran wrap labeled "BIG Ranch," authorities said.
After being apprehended in New York, Reynolds was charged in a criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles Wednesday.
