理研CDBの坂口、永樂、笹井らの研究チームは、ヒトES細胞から自己組織化によって終脳の内側外套を誘導し、さらにそこから海馬神経細胞（錐体細胞、顆粒細胞）を得ることに成功した。誘導培養143日目のカルシウムイメージングでは神経ネットワークの同期発火も見られた。

A research team led by Mototsugu Eiraku at RIKEN CDB succeeded in generating functional hippocampal neurons from human ES cells-derived telencephalic tissue. On culture day 143, hippocampal neurons showed synchronized neuronal activity in vitro as shown in this movie.
