The extent of the US government's surveillance programme seems to be much greater than was previously thought. There have been weeks of growing anger across Europe and South America over claims the US is spying on their leaders. Now there is outrage inside the US. Hundreds of demonstrators are complaining that their National Security Agency is eavesdropping on American citizens. Al Jazeera's Jeanne Meserve reports from Washington DC.
