DPSCS began sending a Public Safety Works crew to Mt. Auburn Cemetery in 2008 to help restore the historic African American burial ground. On May 16, 2012 DPSCS joined the Cemetery Board, Sharp Street United Methodist Church, Governor O'Malley, Baltimore Mayor Rawlings-Blake and many other partners for a ribbon cutting. Over the last four years pre-release offenders have cleared 150 tons of brush and debris, revealing headstones that were once hidden from view. The project will continue thanks to a recent grant from the Abell Foundation and a partnership with Morgan State University.
