Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER) is a forest eco-restoration project, established to restore ecologically important peat forest areas on Indonesia’s Kampar Peninsula. Developed through a multi-stakeholder partnership between APRIL, international NGO Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and Indonesian social-development consultancy - Bidara, APRIL has committed USD17 million over the next 10 years to restore the Kampar Peninsula.
With a broader vision to protect large sections of the Kampar Peninsula Core, RER’s first multi-year ecosystem restoration programme will employ an integrated scientific approach to restore and protect 20,265 hectares of peat forest as a biodiverse forest reserve area.
