Finding out if you’re eligible for Youth Allowance as a student or an Australian Apprentice is easy.
To be eligible, you need to be: • between 18 and 24 years old (although in some instances 16 to 17 year olds are eligible) • studying full time in an approved course at an approved institution or undertaking an Australian Apprenticeship, and • an Australian resident. We also look at your income to make sure you’re under the threshold. If you’re considered to be a dependant, we’ll need to look at your parents’ financial details as well. If you’re considered independent, your parents’ financial details won’t affect your eligibility, but we may look at your personal assets.
