the banter on board is brusque and she is brazen to him but it changes radically when she reaches the holy land and the jewish court of her mother and stepfather king herod ,she is sceptical and she becomes attached to her roman escort after the debauchery becomes apparent to her and then saint john the baptiste steps in and the movie gets a tiny bit sluggish with all the sermonising but all that is changed as judith her mother conspires to present her daughter to the sybaritic philistine monarch king herod and the curse is cast over the sacred land .
the landmark in the movie is the dance of seven veils which is rita at her best and she is the best dancer hollywood ever has produced -the puerto rican newyorker who was equally at home as cover girl or gilda ,and in orson welles best movie -lady from shanghai -one of the best American movie ever made ! salome is a memorable biblical melodrama with great visuals ,sumptuous costumes and the exceptional choroegraphy of the memorable dance finale . indulge and enjoy !directed by William Dieterle and produced by Buddy Adler from a screenplay by Harry Kleiner and Jesse Lasky Jr. The music score was by George Duning, the dance music by Daniele Amfitheatrof and the cinematography by Charles Lang.
