Wapato grows in shallow waters all over North America. There are over 30 different kinds all of which are dible. For many American Indian tribes this was one of the staples of winter foods because many can be gathered in a minimal amount of time (as long as you don't mind getting cold LOL). I use a rake to gather them but the old way of doing it is by dancing over the wapato beds. If you dance hard enough the food floats to the surface.
