In this episode, we find the GF at the end of the Fire Cavern, but like most summons, they have to test our might.

To reiterate, the reason I'm not junctioning magic to my stats for now (like Water) is because it takes too long to get them for too little reward. There is an excellent Speed FAQ on GameFAQs that helped provide a great foundation to my plan (though I certainly don't follow it to the letter):

Recommended Abilties for Ifrit: HP-J, Str+20%, Str+40%, Ammo-RF*, Elem-Def-J, ElemDefx2, F Mag-RF
*Ifrit must be at Level 10 to learn Ammo-RF
