Chapter 162 of 280 of Paul Hodge's November, 2012 video book "How to Go Solo Around the World in 47 Days" chronicles Paul's coverage of the Saturday, June 2, 2012 kickoff event for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee Celebration at the Epsom Derby ("Derby"). The Queen chose the Derby as the kickoff event for her Jubilee Celebration because she is an avid horse breeder and racing enthusiast.
The Derby is Britain's richest horse race and the country's most prestigious. It is one of Britain's great national events and has a huge worldwide TV audience. On the internet, Paul scored a valued ticket to the Derby's Queen's Stand which is on the finishing line. To be in the Queen's Stand, Paul had to dress in formal attire so he renting a top hat and morning suit. During the races, Paul was able to gain access to the exclusive and restricted winner's circle area where Queen Elizabeth awarded trophies to race winners. At times, Paul was just three feet away from the Queen! This video focuses on the start of Paul's Derby adventure where he took the train from Waterloo Station to Epsom and a bus from the station to the Epsom Downs racecourse. In addition to the June 2nd Derby event, the rest of the Jubilee celebration's schedule was: On June 3rd, led by the Queen's barge, a fantastic flotilla of ships paraded down the Themes River. On Monday, June 4th, a great concert was held at Buckingham Palace, and on Tuesday, June 5th, the last event of the celebration was a Queen led carriage ride and procession from St. Paul's Cathedral to Parliament and then on to Buckingham Palace.
Paul is one of the few people in this World to have explored and adventured around our planet three times in four years and twice in the last six months !!
Throughout his June, 2012, 40,000+ mile adventure, Paul penned incisive, compelling commentaries with fresh perspectives on the socio-economic & political challenges facing the diverse nations/cultures he explored. The commentaries will be expanded upon and incorporated in Paul's upcoming book, See Commentaries at: http://genpolicy.com/blog.
On June 19, 2012, Paul returned from his 47 day solo adventure around our planet. The trip was fantastic because Paul covered seldom viewed events/sites such as riots and protests in Chile, Argentina & Spain, Soweto where South Africa's freedom movement began, gold machines in Abu Dhabi, Jerusalem/the West Bank & the Wailing Wall, the historic Egyptian Presidential elections, up close with Queen Elizabeth & her Diamond Jubilee celebration, the changing of the guard ceremony in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall and many other exciting seldom seen events.
This video book is Paul's second to chronicle his solo adventures around our planet. The book is intended to instruct viewers on how to go around the world solo. By providing the viewer with detailed videos and commentary of his recent June, 2012 World adventure, author Paul Hodge shows what it realistically takes to plan and successfully execute this life changing "bucket list" achievement.
