This is the more fun part of the performance art sort of process that is mochi-making. After this, the lump of mochi dough goes into a machine which fills small balls of it with sweet adzuki-bean paste and then spits it out. Then it's ready to eat, all warm and soft and sticky.
At the end of this video, the mochi-maker shouts at the crowd (who were all behind me) to please go have fresh yomogi mochi.
Boy that was tasty. I'll never eat better mochi in my life, I'm sure of it.
