March 12, 2012 - Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) travels to Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday, March 13 to attend the deportation of a 27 year old Ridgeland, South Carolina man, a husband and the father of two U.S. citizens, because the Congressman feels the case is a test for new deportation guidelines announced by President Obama in 2011. He discusses his trip and the deportation case against Gabino Sanchez on CNN's Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien. The Obama deportation guidelines instruct the Department of Homeland Security to prioritize the deportations of immigrants who have committed serious crimes like rape and murder and apply prosecutorial discretion to close deportation cases against immigrants with deep ties to the United States and no criminal history.
