In a few months, Shawn is packing his bags and leaving the country.

"I might be in Europe for the next five years and not even speak English," says Shawn (COM'09), a film major and French minor. Actually, he will be using his native tongue as he teaches English in Givet, a village in Ardennes, France — although far less than if he was returning to his hometown of Westerly, R.I.

His undergraduate years were "a really nice transition for me, from growing up in this tiny little state to going who knows where," he says.

Shawn's transition mirrors some of the themes of his undergraduate thesis film, "The Coast."

"I've always wanted to make a movie," he says. "Now I'm leaving with a movie that Im happy with — kind of."
