This video attempts to tell the true story of one moment in a dorky kid's life. I was the kid! I was 17 years old in 1966, skinny, with greased back hair and a stubborn case of acne, and had convinced my Mom I was trustworthy enough to take the family sedan on the road solo. There was a girl named Renee, who attended crosstown Rutherford High School on whom I, like many other guys like me, had a tremendous crush. She was pretty, charming and very popular. Although I had seen her at football games and other events, I had never met her. One day, while driving down Frankford Ave. in my hometown of Panama City, FL, with the Mighty 590, WDLP, blasting away on the car radio, I spotted a car coming toward me in the opposite lane. As it drew closer I realized it was Renee driving what I remember to be a convertible. The very moment our cars passed each other, Lou Christie's "Outside The Gates of Heaven" came on the radio. As I watched her disappear in the rear view mirror I thought, what an appropriate song. Time has moved on and I married another beautiful girl and have been with her almost 40 years, but have always remembered that moment and have enjoyed telling the story. To this day, some 45 years later, Renee still does not know I even exist, which is probably best. I hope you enjoy the video and a super performance from the great Lou Christie on this classic tune from 1966. It is presented in original mono as it would have been heard on the car radio, taken directly from the 45 RPM single I bought that very day and which is also pictured in the video . Please share the link and thank you for watching.
