Many religions teach something similar to this: "Love has in it no element of fear; but love drives away fear, because fear involves pain, and if a person gives way to fear, then there is something imperfect in their love." When you are communicating in a harsh ineffective way, look for some fear behind your actions. Find that fear and express it. Say "I feel ____," and then describe that fear. Expressing fear may reduce or eliminate fear, and may help you find solutions. Expressing your fear can help you be more understanding, kind, and patient with yourself and with others. It's either fear or love. Can it really be that simple? Are you able to find and express what you may be afraid of, and hopefully move on to a better place, or find a solution?
