This footage from the WSDOT archives features dignitaries at the Aug. 28, 1963 SR 520 bridge opening event on Lake Washington. Crowds of onlookers watch Gov. Albert D. Rosellini use larger-than-life ribbon cutting scissors to open the new bridge to traffic, including a motorcycle brigade and thousands of cars and trucks. Drivers pay their tolls at toll booths upon arrival to the Eastside, and explore the new major regional highway.
SR 520 is 50 years old on Aug. 28, 2013. Join us on SR 520 Memory Lane to share your memories, read the memories of others, and take a look at historic documents. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr52...
