Dennis vanEngelsdorp of the Bee Informed Partnership presents the results of the 2012-2013 nationwide management survey. In the second vlog installment, Dennis discusses the disparity between the loss levels of beekeepers who use varroa controls and those who do not. Varroa control products and strategies are also examined to determine their effectiveness. Some of the findings include:
-People who used a known varroa mite control product lose fewer colonies than those who don't. BEEKEEPERS SHOULD HAVE A VARROA TREATMENT STRATEGY IN PLACE. -Not all varroa control products work the same. People who used Api-Guard, ApiVar, and ApiLife Var lost the fewest colonies. -People who used Drone brood removal had increased colony survival. -When treating colonies for varroa, you should treat all of the colonies in your apiary, not just some of them.
