Speaker(s): Kofi Annan
Chair: William Shawcross
Recorded on 4 October 2012 in Peacock Theatre, Portugal Street.

Kofi Annan has been at the centre of the major geopolitical events of our time. With over forty years of service to the United Nations -- the last ten as Secretary-General -- he provides a unique, behind-the-scenes view of international diplomacy during one of the most tumultuous periods in global politics.

Annan's candid stories of world leaders and public figures of all striped contrast powerfully with his descriptions of the courage and decency of ordinary people everywhere struggling for a new and better world.

Kofi Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, serving two terms between 1997-2006. In 2001, Annan and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. His memoir, Interventions: A Life in War and Peace| is published by Allen Lane Books.

William Shawcross is a widely renowned writer and broadcaster, who's works have appeared in the Sunday Times, Time, Newsweek and the International Herald Tribune. He is the author of numerous acclaimed books including Deliver Us From Evil: Warlords and Peacekeepers in a World of Endless Conflict, Allies: The US, Britain, Europe and the War in Iraq and most recently Justice and the Enemy: From the Nuremberg Trials to Khaled Sheikh Mohammed.
