Classic Game Room presents ON THIS DAY IN GAMING! On June 17, 1980, Atari's Asteroids and Lunar Lander became the first games to be registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Despite this official step, license looting would continue, until software lockout protection and other counter-measures were established after the Crash of '83. Nonetheless, video game clones stand as the foundation for some of the greatest titles and characters in gaming, including Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac-Man, and Galaga.
