Tobacco use and cigarette smoking has earned a reputation as a major threat to the health of users. The list of risks associated with smoking is long and includes:
Lung Cancer (25 fold increase)
Coronary heart disease (2-4 fold)
Stroke (2-4 fold)
Other cancers (at least 12 other cancers including esophageal, kidney and bladder)
Complications of pregnancy for mother and baby
Diabetes
And unfortunately, many, many others (far too many to discuss in this lecture)

Some well known options to quit include
Create a plan to quit
Have a support system
Nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patches, prescription meds, etc)
Treat withdrawal symptoms
Alternative therapies (hypnosis, acupuncture, etc)
