On 28 May 1998, Pakistani announcement that it has conducted five nuclear tests was not a big surprise to the world. They were held in response to a series of five nuclear explosions India conducted earlier in May 2008. Pakistan marked it's 12th anniversary of Nuclear tests on 28th May 2010.
The political and social scenario of Pakistan has changed immensely over the past 12 years. There's a lobby in Pakistan who accuses Pakistani government of spending money on nuclear weapons instead of using it for the betterment of it's people. But many experts like Mr. Moeed Yusuf of USIP declares it as a misconception. According to him there's no link between nuclear weapons and economic conditions of a country, nuclear weapons are just a utility so that there's no all out war at the higher end.
On the other hand Mr. Bill Milam, former American ambassador to Pakistan believes that Pakistan was unfortunate as America had to sanction the transactions to Pakistan when America came to know about Pakistan's nuclear program in 1990 which effected it's economic conditions.
