Teun Bilsma of Amsterdam Airport Schipol discusses how the Netherland's largest airport manages assets with IBM's Maximo and Maximo Mobile solutions.

The department where I do belong is responsible for all assets you can find on an airport. Our department maintain runways, terminal building, infrastructure, luggage system and many more.

Number of passengers last year were nearly 50 million. Number of air movements were about 430,000, especially of Amsterdam Airport.

Schiphol is an AirportCity concept and a one terminal concept. AirportCity concept means it is not only the way to handle planes and passengers, it gives many more things to visitors on the airport.

We have many real estate and also shops and other way it is a great experience for everyone to visit Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Our department, my department provides systems, for example, Maximo.

When I look at the system, Maximo we are responsible for, now there are 50,000 objects, assets in the system which we are maintain at this moment.

One of the great goals during the project we have last year, doing the upgrade, was to improve Maximo Mobile.

One of the goals from us as a maintenance department from Schiphol is that the assets who are out of order is so low as possible. By collecting data after incidents when an asset is out of order, we can change our maintenance concept so we can change from corrective maintenance to preventative maintenance and in that way, the chance that an asset goes out of order will be much lesser.

Outsourcing from maintenance was part of the new strategy to get to a lean and mean organization to do outsourcing of all maintenance activities, gives our organization the opportunity to act quicker at the circumstances in the market.

During the use of Maximo by one of the service providers, main contractors, they came with the question, if we connect our system to their system -- we told and we explained how we use Maximo and what we can do and what they can do with Maximo.

We don't need an interface between those systems because Maximo delivers already all data and information we need as a company. So that was great advantage in the way we are using Maximo by us as Schiphol.
