This is a chainmaille painting I made called "Ol' Blue Eye." I made it using the European 4-in-1 Pattern with 4,720 rings (20g/3.0mm) in 5 colors of enameled copper. I ran a dowel behind it to show the movement of all the little rings.
"Ol' Blue Eye" is my tribute to one of my favorite artists--M. C. Escher. This is my adaptation of his mezzotint "Eye" he created in 1946. While Escher used shades of grey, I put my own mark on it by using three shades of blue with black and silver colored copper rings. I created the pattern (without the aid of pattern-making software), cut all the jump rings with a saw, and wove each ring individually into this European 4-in-1 chainmaille inlay. The chainmaille inlay sheet is suspended in an open-front black leather shadow box and completed with a 6-LED art light.
